This picture is not really great, but it is of the Mensa in Munster and when Germany is playing this fenced off area is packed full of people. One night I headed over there, with no knowledge that Germany was playing, and to my surprise the Mensa was packed. Everyone was wearing a soccer jersey and had the German flag painted on their cheek. There were many screens placed throughout the building and a giant one outside. It looked liked a giant party, it was even free to watch the game with everyone, which I was not expecting. Soccer here plays the same role as football in America. It is a common event that people can come together with. A main difference between sports in America and soccer over here is that it promotes country pride.
The only discussions I have had with classmates is whether Germany won or lost. I was not aware that the USA lost to Argentina, but it is understandable because soccer is not the most popular sport in the States. Therefore, I don’t think it really matters because America unites together through different sports like football and baseball. I haven’t really seen any forms of symbols about the European Championships.
I wrote basically the same thing! Sports is a very uniting factor throughout the West!
