After living in Germany for almost four weeks, I have been able to catch the start and the finish of the European soccer games. Here in Germany I can tell that soccer is very important to this country, it unites everyone together for a short period of time.
You can see if everywhere you travel in Germany, through advertisement and even the local people! Walking around the city you can see cars with Germany flags, hanging on the top of their car flying through the wind! Even flags on some of the bicycles that people drive daily. Even local bakeries have special sandwiches that look like a soccer balls and they’re pretty lecker!
It’s amazing to see Germany unite like this for soccer games, I don’t think this really happens that much except for when the women’s soccer team won the world title a couple of years ago.
And was I surprise that USA lost in the soccer tournament? No but I’m surprised that they made it to the semifinals, soccer isn’t really the “American” sport that is talked about that much.
As my time comes closer to an end, I hope that Germany makes it in the finals and that I will be able to watch!⚽️🇩🇪
Hey Angel,
You’re right, soccer is a big deal to Germans. I’m glad that you could be here to be part of the celebration, even if you had to miss the NBA finals because of it.
