Studying abroad in Madrid this summer was a once in a lifetime experience. The second three-week period I had the opportunity to visit Candelario, Barcelona, Castillo de Granadilla, and Ibiza. My favorite places were Candelario and Ibiza.
In Candelario there were streams of fresh water flowing throughout the city, beautiful views of the mountains and landscape, and friendly locals. It was there where we were able to see how and where chorizo was made, make pottery, and hike through the mountainside. I enjoyed this trip in particular because it allowed us to take a break from the hectic city life of Madrid, and allowed us to relax.
In Ibiza, I was able to relax and explore with a couple classmates. My favorite activity in Ibiza was going to a secluded beach. I had to scale a wall and climb over countless boulders to reach the beach, but that was part of the adventure. Once there, I was able to lay out and swim but a few people swam out to and island and jumped off a cliff. It was truly an exciting experience that I’d never forget.
When it comes to Madrid, I loved the city, the nightlife, the market, and my teachers at Don Quijote. The food took a little getting used to because it was so carb heavy, and there were a few complications with housing , but overall my experience in Spain was amazing and I am glad I went. Traveling there also allowed me to become more independent when traveling and it allowed me to improve my Spanish.
