It’s been about a week since I’ve arrived here in my new college town, Reutlingen. Adjusting has been okay so far, but it’s only the first week, so it still feels like a vacation to me. Today, we started our first official day of intensive business German and honestly I’m a bit disappointed in the level I placed. After having taken six years of German I placed in A2, it’s kind of sad actually. Taking the placement test, my anxiety went through the roof and my German apparently out of the window. I know my German is better than the level I’m in, but maybe I’m just thinking too highly, so I didn’t try too hard to get moved up a level. Hopefully, this isn’t a good indication of how the rest of my semester will go once actual classes start. Anyway, I will try to remain positive and make it through. It’s only the second week, so I’m probably just making things a bigger deal than they really are. On the bright side, I am here in this beautiful country and meeting new people from all over the world. This experience no matter how positive or negative it can get is never going to come again so I will try to enjoy it as much as possible and still try to do well in my classes. Next time my post won’t be so gloomy, I promise.
