2 days late – but for a good cause! I just went on the coolest trip of my life. This last week was “Spring Break” (so weird because it’s cold!!) in New Zealand. 10 of my friends and I rented cars and went road tripping! We got to see SUCH cool things. I got to see what made me want to study abroad in New Zealand in the first place – the Kaikoura baby seal waterfall. During the winter seal pups come to the waterfall and spend the whole day playing! As I sat there watching them, I was so happy. We continued on our road trip and went hiking for 2 days in Abel Tasman national park. I had never done a backpacking trip before! It was very difficult to carry everything I would need throughout the 2 days in my pack and walk (for about 5 hours a day). Clothes, sleeping bag, food, EVERYTHING. We walked about 30 miles in 2 days. That night – I saw some of the prettiest starts EVER! They were even better than the ones I saw in Fiji. The milky way was so bright – I felt like I was in a planetarium. After Abel Tasman we made our way back down the west coast. We saw some glaciers and a beautiful gorge with such blue water. I am completely in love with this beautiful country. After 7 days, I am thoroughly exhausted, but very content. It’s nice to sit in my room, catch up with family, and do nothing. Traveling is exhilarating but soooo tiring!
