Guys I have been in London for about a week now! Can you believe it? I am actually studying abroad abroad.
I wont lie, the cultural shock is pretty hard to overcome but I am trying to adapt as quick as possible so I get to enjoy London even more! I have awesome news to share with you (drum roll): I FOUND AN AUTHENTIC VENEZUELAN RESTAURANT (sort of) THAT HAS AREPAAAAS!
I understand, I am foreign, but, really, if you don’t know what arepas are, believe me… you’re missing out big time! Arepas are a traditional venezuelan food made of corn and they are vegan, gluten free and do not have many calories by themselves and the best part is that you can fill them up with ANYTHING! Isn’t that awesome? Also, did I mentioned, they won the “Best Breakfast Meal” award on 2015?
Let me explain, for a person from Venezuela, arepas are HOLY and in order to find places that actually serve good arepas in other countries, we usually need to travel an average of 2 hours… yeah, 2 hours just to have a corn patty… believe me, it’s worth it.
Fortunately, I did not need to go to the ends of the world to find arepas in London, I actually find them 5 minutes away from my flat (fancy way of saying apartment) at Camden Town! Camden, is a really interesting place about 40 mins away from CAPA (using the subway) and it’s full of really interesting people and lots of things to do! One of those things is Camden’s Market… now, coming from Rollins, I am used to visiting the farmers market on park avenue, I am sure you are familiar with it… well, Camden’s Market is like the farmers market but ON STEROIDS! It is massive and has different types of food from everywhere in the world, music shops, clothes shops, accessories shops, comics shops, a pub, and much more! This is where I found the Arepas place. http://www.camdenmarket.com/
4 REAL, TRY THE AREPAS, THEY ARE WORTH IT!
On a different note, I just started my internship yesterday and it was not as bad as I thought it would be, actually, it was not bad at all! I am working with D&D London which is a London-based company that owns more than 30 restaurants in London, NY and other places! I am really excited to see what I can learn there and I can’t wait to go see the restaurants next week… you can probably guess what my post next week will be about!
I will keep you updated on what happens here at London! And hopefully I get to do more touristy stuff so I can show you and give you some tips next time!
Peace out!!
