Dear FutureMe,
Can you believe you’re at the halfway point of your trip?? I’m writing this to you to see how much has changed. At this point, all I have are some expectations of how Buenos Aires is, you on the other hand have been there for about 2 months! I expect that you have at least tried some maté at this point, whether you like it or not is something you’ll have to tell me. I hope that you have done some exploring in different areas of BA and found some favourite spots. I hope that your Spanish has improved as well. Hopefully you’ve made a few friends who you can hop around town with. I hope a few of them are native porteños. Make sure to keep in touch with them! I’m so excited to go to Buenos Aires and lets hope it has lived up to my expectations.
Lots of Love,
Anneliese
WOW, I wrote this to myself over a month ago! It’s still so surreal that I have been here for so long.
To answer some of the questions from my letter, yes I have tried mate and I like it! I don’t drink it that often but when I do I enjoy the energy that it gives me after. It’s quite bitter but you get accustomed to the taste. I need to go buy my own mate cup soon so I can enjoy it even more. I’ve learned the do’s and don’ts and exactly how to make a good cup of mate. It really is an art that I could do a separate post completely!
I’ve explored a lot of the city already and found some really cute cafes! My goal is to find even more. I really want to explore Palermo Soho during the day as a lot of people say there’s a lot of cafes there too. And yes I’ve met some friends that are really cool and hopefully they think I’m cool too! 😛 As for porteños, I haven’t really made friends with any. I still have some time to try to meet more locals and make some more friends.
My time here so far has been amazing and I can say that I am comfortable and I can make my way around much easier. Just a hop on the subte or bus (difficult still) and I can get to where I need to be. I pride myself on being pretty good with directions and I always tend to be the one who knows where we’re going on a night out on the town. I can honestly say that I feel like I could stay here for a long time and feel at home. I don’t know what I’m gonna do when it’s coming towards the end 🙁
Anyway, I’ll update you with my fun adventures soon! I’m going to Iguazú soon and I can’t wait! A lot of people went this past weekend and it looked amazing. Here’s to more adventures in Argentina 🙂
Besos,
Anneliese
