Anyways, since last time, a bunch of friends and I took a drive up to Wanaka last weekend to get out Dunedin for a bit. We had all been working tirelessly the entire week on long papers, and after finally turning them in on Friday, we all needed to escape for a while.
We arrived to Wanaka on Friday night and went to an amazing Mexican restaurant that we had all been craving. I opted for the quesadilla and I split some chips and guac with my friend. Man had I missed guacamole. Sadly no Chipotle here. After that, we all went to a convenience store to grab some desserts before heading back to our hostel/campsite.
Saturday morning, we got an early start and headed to hike up Roy’s Peak. It was definitely one of the hardest day hikes I’ve ever done. Talk about elevation gain, hiking straight up for about 2 hours. It was all worth it when we got to the main lookout because the views were unreal. It literally felt like you were on top of the world. We decided not to climb all the way to the top and leave early to make it out to our next destination of the day. We drove about an hour to the Blue Pools in Haast Pass. The sun was out so the color of the water lived up to it’s name. A few of my friends were brave enough to handle the cold water and jump into the pool from the bridge. Let’s not talk about all the sandfly that were swarming us though.
Sunday, we split up and a few us went to a free wine tasting at Rippon Vineyard. The wine was delicious and we all bought a bottle to bring home to our families. Can I mention again that the wine tasting was free?!
Now we literally only have 2 weeks left of classes and then it’s time for exam month. Definitely not going to take these last several weeks in New Zealand for granted. Until next time!
