I had to submit this blog early because I’m off to Rome for the next few days! This weekend begins my next phase of traveling! In the next few weeks I will also be visiting Barcelona and Edinburgh.
Just like I wrote in my last blog, I have found myself concentrating more on academics than anything else. On the bright side, I am almost ready to submit my next three essays, which will leave me with only two more to complete. Unfortunately, the constant researching and writing has put me in somewhat of a lull. I am actually starting to feel homesick as well. However, based on discussions during orientation, I understand that I am at that point in my study abroad experience where these kinds of feelings are normal.
Although I’ve been hard at work on my essays, I did manage to find some time for fun! My love for Nandos UK and the Lowlander pub off Holburn tube station continues to flourish. Last week, I went to Nandos three times…yikes; I guess it’s good and bad that its right across the street from school. I also had the chance to tour Parliament last weekend. This may have possibly been the best experience I’ve had in London so far. The tour was incredibly fascinating. The guide I had did an amazing job blending in history, politics, and popular culture as she showed us the House of Lords, the House of Commons, the Great Hall, and the rest of Westminster Palace. I would highly recommend going on the tour if anyone ever has the chance.
Watching the election unfold from London has been quite an experience as well. The British are very informed with every aspect of it. They were incredibly pessimistic whenever it was brought up in class or in conversation. Most are acting just as childish about Trump being the new-president elect. It has been an infuriating but also enlightening experience.
