Ciao Regazzi,
As my semester has been going I thought I’d update you guys with some of the cool places I wish I knew about much earlier in the semester than when I found them. It’s easy to get caught up in going to the same restaurants, the same american (or irish) bars and the same clubs….but hopefully this list can help you broaden your horizons:)
Food:
- Dar Poeta- some amazing pizza right in the middle of Trastevere, it’s a great place to sit down for lunch and the prices are very worth it. It’s on a few food websites that discuss trastevere so dinner might be much more crowded, but lunch is equally as enjoyable!
- La Prosciutteria- A very small rustic hole in the wall that will give you some of the most amazing panino’s (sandwiches) I’ve ever tasted in Rome! Lunch or dinner can be amazing. If you have more time on your hands, bypass the sandwich and order a platter. for only 15 euro you can get a spread of meats, cheeses and bread that is more than enough to feed two people. Don’t forget to drink some wine with the platter and prepare to relax, talk and bond with your friends for a bit:)
Clubs:
- Art Cafe in Villa Borghese- Tired of Shari Vari? Scholar’s? Sloppy Sam’s? want to go out dancing with a bunch of your friends? Art Cafe is the place to be. It is a bit selective on letting people in, so pants and a button down with rolled up sleeves (or anything equally as american) probably isn’t going to fly. 14 friends and myself got a table for around 30 euro a person and it came with some alcohol and mixers (about enough for two drinks a person). This isn’t the place to get drunk, it’s more about having a drink and dancing to some loud and hype music. People here socialize, dance, and lounge. Easily had some of my favorite nights here.
Things to Do:
- Churches- you may not be into the whole ancient and famous art, but you walk past so many churches in Rome. Take an extra 30s and pop your head in, sometimes the church will catch your eye and you may spend an extra 2-3 minutes just admiring what it has to offer. Other times you’ll walk in a on chorus rehearsing, and as long as you’re quiet and respectful you can sit down and listen to the enchanting voices for easily 30 minutes!
- Roma Soccer Games- I only went to one Roma game and it was this past Monday (3 days before I leave). I had the most fun at any sporting game I’ve ever been to, inside stadio olimpico. Fans are passionate, cheering is loud and proud, and soccer is always fun to watch. If you buy your tickets early you can get em fairly cheap compared to buying them the night before/day of. I advise not bringing a wallet, just have with you: your ticket, your apartment key, some euros for food and beer (4 euro beers and 4 euro hot dogs) and your ID (to check with your ticket). That way any pick pocketers wont get much off you and it will also help you from spending too much money at the over priced stadium. Ps: Roma colors are Red (maroon) and Yellow/Gold.
These are just a few gem’s I found a bit late, and things I wish I started doing much much earlier in the semester. If you want any more places to go feel free to comment or contact me!
Buona Seratta,
Marc
