Blog Post 1 – February, 22 2017
Alrighty! So, I may have forgotten to blog before I left Turkey, oops! So I am writing this at a coffee shop called Lotus Story near Urbanest Sydney Central, which is where I am living this semester.
Sydney~
After 20 something hours of flying, and a 5-6 hour layover at Dubai I came to Sydney about a week ago. The first morning I woke up at 7:30, got a croissant and a coffee and started walking. Passing through the rush hour crowd in downtown Sydney–or as Aussies call it the city–I made my way to the Sydney Opera House. The sight of one of the world’s most famous landmarks, sitting by the bay, and a cruise ship across from it with hundreds of tourists around was astonishing.
In the following couple of days I went to bunch of other famous locations in and around Sydney, like Bondi Beach and did some touristy stuff like taking the Big Red Bus. At Bondi I stumbled upon the Iceberg Club, and met and hung out with a few locals.
TEAN Orientation~
After a few days of exploring Sydney, I went to Cairns for the TEAN (The Education Abroad Network) orientation. There were about 180 students from all over US, and we all stayed at the Hilton Cairns which was really cool. The second day of orientation I went to the Great Barrier Reef to do an introductory dive, and because I had taken the class a Rollins, the instructor let me wander of from the group a bit. I saw a turtle, and chased it for a while, taking a video with my GoPro. The GBR excursion was absolutely amazing, I got to see fish and underwater plants of literally every color. The next day I wanted to see around the city, so I rented a scooter and headed to the mountains!! I ended up in the rainforest (literally) and hiked at the most tropical forest that I have seen so far. Luckily I found my way to the city back to return the scooter in time. Another day we went to pet Koalas and Kangaroos!!! Basically orientation was a blast!
~Next week I will start University of Sydney orientation, so stay tuned for the O-Week post. I heard the orientation in Australia gets pretty crazy haha!
ps. Sorry that I’m not really good at blogging and whatnot I’ll get better in time hopefully lol.
