Another adventure in Italia bella. This weekend a large group of my ISA program students ventured north into Tuscany. Our first stop was the timeless city of Florence. Although a small and crowed city, the historical gyms that so influenced renaissance artists shine through the flocks of tourists. Upon arrival we checked into our hotel and proceeded to attend a tour of the famous Uffici museum. Before entering we were able to get a glimpse of Michelangelo’s copy of David in the piazza and pose with some of other various sculptures. The Uffici was marvelous. Although perhaps not my favorite museum (i adore the louve) it was especially enjoyable to view paintings such as “the Birth of Venus”.
Day 2 involved visiting the Academia museum, home to Michelangelo’s “David” and climbing allllll the way up to the top of the bell tower Duomo. We finished with a wonderful dinner from the top rated “la giostra” restaurant that used to serve as a storage house for the beautiful historical carousel of Florence. We topped the evening off with gelato and a stroll around the Doumo. Tomorrow we will venture out into the Chianti wine region to sample local vino and cheese before returning to Roma. What a weekend in Tuscany… A place I will never forget.
