The longer I reside in London as my semester abroad slips away, the fonder I grow of the city. As the spring flowers blossom, so do my friendships that I have begun here. Mornings are consumed by my internship in Chelsea, and some of my afternoons attending class. The remaining time affords opportunities to exercise, explore the city, and sample the many remarkable cuisines London has to offer. A close friend from Rollins arrived for a visit over Spring Break and accompanied me in investigating in detail new areas of the city. Each day, new features and aspects of the city revealed themselves, including overlooked areas in previous frequently visited areas.
As the weather warms each week, some days are lovely and cloudless. Exploring the city on foot is a pleasure, strolling through the many parks. Bicycling through Hyde Park is particularly enjoyable. Among the many sites that beckoned during my friend’s visit were the London Eye, the Tower of London, Westminster, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery, the British Museum, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tate Modern Museum, and the Natural History Museum. We explored Chelsea, Mayfair, SoHo, Camden, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, Kensington, South Bank, Canary Wharf, Greenwich, and the city of London.
We experienced the panoramic view of London from Primrose Hill and from the rooftop of one of London’s tallest buildings. We savored the cozy luxury of afternoon tea at the Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair. The endless landscape of fascinating new places to explore lies ahead. I could never grow bored in London.
