Rollins College has given me the opportunity to be a part of a wonderful study abroad program known as Verano Español. My time in Madrid over the past two weeks has not only challenged me to understand more about the Spanish language than I ever have before, but it has allowed me to appreciate many important aspects of Spanish culture and tradition.
My favorite cultural activity thus far has been the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. I started playing soccer when I was six years old and ever since then I have loved the game. While I have been at other soccer stadiums before, I’ve never enjoyed one as much as the Real Madrid Stadium. When we first arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, I was unsure what to expect. As we continued our tour my experience only got better, as I realized how unique the stadium was. Although I really enjoyed walking through the stands and sitting on the bench, my favorite part was learning about the club’s history and the experiences of certain players over the years. My time spent visiting the stadium not only made me want to attend a professional soccer game in the near future, but it gave me the motivation to play soccer and do what I love again.
