It is crunch time at the University of Otago! This week has been dedicated to several textbooks and class article readings to prep for our final exams next week. It is so hard to think that my time here is coming to an end. I really do not like thinking about it but my Uni journey at Otago is coming to a close. Something different at Uni here is that the school stops classes a week before exams begin, in order for students to prepare for the tests. This seemed strange to me at first, but this week off from classes really helps with stress and has allowed students to have ample time to let their school work marinate in their minds. To shake off some exam nerves, my flat and next door neighbors got together and had a “friendsgiving.” We all pot lucked and brought our favorite dishes from our countries to dinner. It was the best idea!
This picture above is my flatmate Hannah from Michigan and my wonderful plate of friendsgiving kai (food in Maori). This get together was a nice break from the books and high stress exam prep atmosphere. It was a great time to catch up with friends who I haven’t seen in a while. Although exams are just around the corner, it is so important to take time and enjoy the friends that I have made here, because soon enough, I won’t be able to see them on a daily basis!
Here are some more ladies of my flat! We all come from such different backgrounds but these women have become my sisters. Last night we were talking about how sad it’s going to be on our last day… so what do we do? Cram ourselves in my room for a slumber party of course! Life has been such a blast and I can’t be more thankful that I have these wonderful people in my life to share this experience with.
