Its been a struggle, but I’m finally settled in Munich. We took a bus all last Monday night for 8 hours from Düsseldorf to Munich and arrived early Tuesday morning. We lugged our giant luggage around the city and on the trains until we were able to check in, receive our keys and walk into our student apartments for the first time. Overly exhausted, I looked at the small place and smelled the awful musty smell and wondered if I could ever get used to it but after a long trip to IKEA and a few trips to the grocery store, this place is definitely starting to feel like home. It’s a small efficiency type studio apartment but it’s all mine and it’s in the middle of the beautiful city of Munich! I’ve enjoyed cooking easy meals of chicken and pasta or schnitzel and potatoes while sipping on German wine and listening to Nora Jones. There’s no other way I’d rather spend my evenings.
Orientation will be taking place over the next two weeks and then we will finally start classes on April 13th. In the meantime, I’m getting a routine set for myself and figuring out which classes I will be taking and am trying to find a voice teacher/choirs and ensembles to join. I’m also trying to get familiar with Munich, visiting museums and biergartens and making friends. This weekend is a long weekend because of Easter and I am hoping to take a hike on Sunday, if the weather is nice. So far the weather hasn’t been so
“Spring-y” and my weather app tells me it will snow this weekend but I’m hoping the sun will come out instead!! I’ve been itching to go out and see the nature after being in the city for the last several weeks and I’ve only heard about the incredibly beautiful hikes Bavaria has to offer and I can’t wait to experience them!
Otherwise, I’ve really been enjoying my time here. I don’t feel like I would rather be anywhere else. Germany is my second home and I feel just as comfortable here as I would in Florida. Although, I wouldn’t mind some warmer, nicer weather!
