This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit the iconic Stonehenge. On the bus ride to the monument the guide constantly used words like magical, mysterious, and mystical in regards to the monument and even had a little pop-up book that he had previously purchased from the gift shop at Stonehenge (can’t have a historic monument without making some sort of profit). I couldn’t help but to laugh at his enthusiasm. Once we arrived at Stonehenge, I immediately noticed the mass amount of sheep in the surrounding fields, but after that i noticed the sheer sizes of the rocks that were used to construct it. I began to get an understanding for the mysticism behind the history of this structure. The fact that a prehistoric culture was able to drag these massive rocks to this exact spot and then stack them upon each other does seem magical. I can also see why some people have decided to make their living talking, teaching, and speculating about this group of rocks. Seems like a lot of effort to create something this large at that time so it had to have had some sort of major importance for the ancient peoples. Although the bus ride was long and the tour guide haggis obsessed this world wide mystery was worth a viewing.
