After reading the title of this post, it should come as no surprise to you that this blog post is the very last thing I have to finish before leaving for the airport. It doesn’t surprise me either. Everyone warned me that today would come much faster than I expected, and of course I disregarded until now. And here we are. Two hours until I leave for the airport, five hours until my plane leaves, and I have just finished packing. I’ve said my goodbyes to my friends, boyfriend, family, pets, and amazon echo and now all I have to do is get on the plane and eat the giant bag of gummy bears that I’ve saved for the flight. I’m looking forward to it.
Once my flight lands and I make my way to my accommodation at Queen Mary, I’ll be able to unpack, although if I’m being honest, I’ll probably open one suitcase and then fall asleep. I’m very eager to meet my flatmates! I’ll have my own room and bathroom, but a common area will be shared among multiple students. My first goal is to convince at least one flatmate to go out to eat with me. Then I can have them explain how anything works in London because I’m just winging it here. I was surprised at how different the vernacular is in the UK than here in the US. Even just the lingo used on websites and in emails has me slightly confused at times. I’m positive this will be a quick adaption once I’m immersed there, but if not, I’m sure there’s a google translate for “British.”
After stuffing my life into two (very full) checked bags, I’m filled with an interesting combination of excitement, fear of the unknown, and hope for weather that isn’t too cold. My classes for this semester are super interesting and I have plenty of trips lined up. I have friends and family set to come visit me from the US and friends in Europe awaiting my visit. The only thing left to do now is eat lunch on the way to the airport and I’m good to go!
