I went to the library for the first time since arriving here. The funny thing is, I couldn’t find any books in it. I quickly realized I was in the visitor’s section of the Library of Congress, and if I wanted to read any books, I would have to get a library card (so those are good for something!) and head to one of the many reading rooms. Also, I can’t check anything out—that’s illegal, and security is a lot stricter than at most libraries. However, I can, if I want to, read almost any document published in the United States. Every publisher, it seems, must send a copy of everything they publish to the Library of Congress, as it’s also where the US Copyright Office is located. If knowledge is power, the Library of Congress is lit as it gets. Now if only Nicholas Cage were here to check me out some books. . . .
