Have you ever been told that getting pooped on by a bird is good luck? Well, I’ve only ever heard that one time before, ironically by someone who had just gotten pooped on. Coincidence? I’m choosing not to look that far into it because it happened in one of my new favorite places on earth.
Two weekends ago I had the pleasure of traveling south to Salamanca and Sevilla, Spain. My friend Mary and I decided to take the last minute opportunity and book anything and everything we could to make the trip work. (No exaggeration we finalized everything at the beginning of that week when we found out there would be a holiday.)
Primarily, we did what any college student would do …we planned the trip out as affordably as possible. This would mean on Wednesday after class we would take a BlahBlah Car (I’ll explain in a minute) about 3 hours to Salamanca and stay in a mixed hostel with 6 beds. Then, Friday morning we would take another BlahBlah car another 4 hours or so to Sevilla and stay in an AirBNB until Sunday mid-day when we would BlahBlahBlah all the way home (get it?).
A BlahBlah Car you might ask? Besides being one of the most affordable to ways to get around Spain, is quite fun. BlahBlah has an app comprable to Uber, but instead of the transportation having a Taxi-like feel, BlahBlah Car links you up with someone who was already planning on going to the same destination you were. Basically this is a fancy explanation for a car pool service thats totally safe and convenient.
We were very fortunate to have had 3 different drivers who were very nice and really pretty funny. Our first was a younger man and we were accompanied by a woman who would go on a little longer than our stop in Salamanca. The second was a brother and sister who were very fun. They were making jokes with us and after eating together they even listened to my Spanish music playlist. Finally, our last driver picked us up in the Audi and took us the long journey of 8 hours home. What a nice guy he was. A girl joined us at our pick up spot because her app crashed and she still needed a ride and was willing to pay him cash, no problem for him. And, about halfway through we swiped another man who had scheduled a ride with him. I highly recommend BlahBlah Car to anyone.
***not to mention***
I highly recommend at least visiting the cathedral and La Plaza Mayor in Salamanca and spending a couple days in Sevilla to see La Plaza de España and get enough time to enjoy the town. Sevilla quickly became my most favorite place on earth. The whole trip was just wonderful. Oh and P.S….don’t look up whenever you see a group of pigeons…
