My classmate and I planned a whole week to travel to other countries in Europe. The benefits of living in Europe is being able to easily travel to other countries within a week! We chose to visit Madrid and Barcelona, Spain; Rome, Italy; and Athens, Greece. For someone like me, whose first time it is traveling, I am sharing some of my experiences while traveling in these countries as well as giving suggestions on places to see, things to do, and foods to eat. (Sorry, this blog may seem a little lengthy)

Barcelona and Madrid, Spain
These cities were filled with color, music, and most of all…sun! It was nice getting away from the cold in London and soaking up the sun. We only stayed in Spain for two days so we couldn’t explore as much as we wanted to. I recommend staying in Spain longer than we did because there was so much more to see and do than we expected! Here’s some of the places we visited:

Sagrada Familia

Park Güell

Barcelona Cathderal

Rome, Italy

What was interesting about this trip is that it snowed in Rome for the first time in five years (and it was my first time seeing snow!). To top that, we got a surprise visit from the Pope! By far my favorite city! I think we stuffed ourselves with pasta and gelato everyday the 3 days we spent in Italy. When in Rome, I wanted to do as the Romans do and not get caught into the expensive tourist-trap restaurants and eateries. Here are some recommendations for authentic Italian cuisine at a cheap price!

Pastificio Guerra

Pastificio Guerra is a small pasta shop in Rome. It serves fresh homemade pasta daily for only 4 euros with unlimited water to drink and if you ask nicely, you can get a free complimentary glass of wine! I prefer this place over any other Italian restaurant in Rome where I think it’s safe to say they have all just been tourist-traps and over priced. Pastificio gives you a pretty large portion of pasta to take away and it’s so delicious! You can get two flavors for just 2.30 euros.Location: Via della Maddalena, 19-23, 00186 Roma RM, Italy

Athens, Greece

To keep it short…Here’s a photo of a gyro. I think that’s literally all I ate in Athens. It’s a very filling and cheap Greek cuisine you can eat on the go for only 2.30 euros. It’s your selection of chicken, pork, or sometimes lamb covered in your desired sauce, with tomato and fries wrapped in a warm soft pita bread. You have to have one…or ten… when your in Greece!

Also, here’s a sweet Greek delicacy called Loukoumades. These are Greek donuts soaked in sweet honey and covered in cinnamon. These donuts tasted amazing! When you’re in Greece, loukoumades are a must!

These are all just suggestions from my experience and I know there are probably a lot more hidden gems I missed out on. If you know of any, I’d love to hear! Overall, this was a spring break like no other. I’m glad to have had the opportunity to travel to other countries and experience the world; I hope to experience more in the future!

A few weeks ago we had our spring break week.
