When I applied to the Lancaster program I was not exactly sure what I was getting myself into, but I can say that it is not what I imagined. We are situated in the Northwest of England very close to the Lake District, which was home to the Romantic poet William Wordsworth and is constantly referenced in English literature such as Pride and Prejudice. Also, the school is located in the countryside. While there is a town, it is rather small and the school is surrounded by a small suburb, fields, and more fields. After becoming slightly more familary with the area, I have realized that this town was a key port in the Triangle Trade and also was involved in the Jacobite rebellions. With the course I am currently enrolled in, I know I will be learning much more of Lancaster’s interesting local history.

So far, I have had traditional Afternoon Tea where the shop was situated along the canal running though Lancaster. Loving tea and scones, this was an absolutely amazing experience. But more importantly, it allowed us to not only meet other students who are studying abroad but meet our professors and administrative staff as well. Also, I have gone to the local market (which had wonderful Indian food), explored an old English graveyard, and went for a beautiful walk in the countryside. But, what I am most looking forward to this week is touring Lancaster Castel. I don’t know much about it but I do know that it was established in the 11th century and has been used as a prison until very recently. I can’t wait see it and all the adventures that are to come!

I have now spent almost a whole week in Lancaster and it is absolutely beautiful!
