During this week, there were no classes which gave me an opportunity to travel. I went to Amsterdam, Netherlands. The first thing I noticed in Amsterdam was the architecture. The main train station in Amsterdam was grandiose like a museum. It seemed as though most of the buildings have stood in the same place for hundreds of years. The city was very nice and clean. The city seemed to be compressed into a small space with all kinds of people grouped together. It was a very touristy region. Many of the streets had canals between them which allowed boats to easily access between streets. I also noticed many bikes. It seemed as though biking was a more popular mode of transportation than driving a car. This makes sense since the streets were so narrow and there were many people in the area. I was able to visit some landmarks. The Basilica of St.Nicholas was a catholic church that stood out in the city. I took a stroll through the Vondelpark which is the largest park in Amsterdam. I was also able to visit the Van Gogh museum which was home to many famous Van Gogh artwork including his ‘Self Portrait’.

Queen Mary University holds a reading week once every semester.
