I was in Place de République just the Thursday before with some friends. It’s strange to think that something like that can happen anywhere really at just a moment’s notice. Fortunately, I was not in Paris at the time of the attacks because I was in Blois touring some castles. However, the shockwaves of such an event found me quite quickly. I was beyond grateful to see that so many of my friends and family cared for my well being and safety. I think that’s the first thing I took away from the experience. Then secondly, I recognized the importance of knowing what exactly is going on in the Middle East and what role Western countries play. I had been somewhat ignorant in the past towards all of it, but I now feel it much more important to know. I also lost an acquaintance to the attacks and that’s been a sad and different experience.

A lot of my friends have decided to leave their program early. My parents have allowed me to stay and living in Paris at this time feels almost as if I’m living in a war zone – just a ridiculously beautiful one.

The castle’s I got to see were gorgeous. Low key decided I’m going to buy one soon. Besides, I need to keep my French sharp. Why not buy a chateau? I think it’s the perfect solution.

Despite the attacks, I really am looking forward to my final weeks here and I am already feeling sad about having to return. I have no doubts though, I will be back in Paris – as long as it remains a safe place to be.

November has been a very interesting month.
