According to\u00a0tradition, the Virgin\u00a0came down to honor a priest who had sacrificed his cloak to the needy, gifting him with a hand-embroidered robe. In the hundreds of years since, the Cathedral has become a monument to Mary and this moment, featuring several visual depictions of this story and a place of reverence for the rock she herself touched while in Toledo. A stunning ceiling fresco in a side gallery offers this detail, my favorite portrayal of Mary for the soft colors and her expression of serenity.
