My parents have wondered what it is about the Middle East that has fascinated me for so long, and to be honest I don’t have a good answer for them. Maybe going to Jordan will provide me the answers.

I finished packing (for the 3rd time) and everything finally fits in my suitcases. Praise! I haven’t even processed this yet. I know I have to be at the airport tomorrow at 8:30 to catch my flight to Atlanta then to Paris. I know where I need to be and when. But the idea that it is because I’m going to Jordan for 3 1/2 months is way too wild right now.

Getting to to this point hasn’t been easy, how could it ever be? My story in the past year has been marred in tragedy and triumph. And yet, here I am. The experiences I will have, the people I will meet and the knowledge I will gain are all too vast for me to comprehend right now. All I can think about right now is just getting to Jordan. Getting through the grueling travel that is required to go halfway across the world. From there, I hope it will hit me: I’m in my new home.

But it since I am not at the airport yet, and I still have time home, I plan on making the most of it. I will be be enjoying the aftermath of Hurricane Hermine at the beach, enjoying some surf. What a day.

it’s crazy, to think that in less than 24 hours I will begin a journey I have long dreamed of.
