Miraculously, the two worst planners in the world managed to meet up in another country better than meeting up in Orlando where we only live 15 minutes away each other. Our meeting point? The Brandenburger Tor: the 18th century neoclassical monument in Berlin and one of the best-known landmarks of Germany.l

Also the same weekend the BMW marathon was hosted in Berlin. I had the chance to met some of his close friends from Stanford and after the Brandenburger Tor we visited the East Side Gallery, a chunk of the Berlin Wall used to express freedom.

The artwork was harsh but I absolutely loved it. We ate at a Bier Garten called Republik Berlin and I learned in this past month beer in Germany is worth as much as water… Stay hydrated folks. Fast forward through the night, let’s just say the nightlife in Berlin goes on till the next morning. This was a farmer’s market opened around midnight in the center of Berlin. Normal?

I could get used to the lifestyle in Berlin. The next morning I woke up early and went on a run throughout Berlin. I’m committed to run in every new city I visit because who wouldn’t want to run next to German architecture?

After my run and a quick breakfast I walked to the flea market in the Mauer park. Quite a loving experience! Later in the day I met up with Francisco and his friends at the Berlin Hauptbahnhof and the train station was four stories high. Unbelievable and they just opened a new public transportation called Innov-Bahn. Innovation is such a big part of Berlin’s culture I was so fascinated. I left Monday afternoon and it was quite hard good-bye because I was not sure when I would see my friend again. But I am so thankful to have the opportunity to explore a new city with my old friend.

Reflection: I have explored so much this past month and although I wish I could travel all semester long I actually have two hard courses and I have not been home for a weekend. Yet that is not going to happen any time soon because my host parents are back from Croatia so that means more delicious cooking and full conversations in German and weekends away from Jacobs! Mom, I’ll slow down eventually.

Tschüss!

Live like the Germans.
