I have never seen a landscape like that in my life. Coming from a caribbean island, I never thought I would make it that far south. It was amazing seeing the snow covered mountains and most of all seeing a glaciar!! Thanks Rollins and ISA for making this happen! :))

On the Saturday I went mini-trekking in Parque Nacional de Los Glasiares which was about an hour from the main area in El Calafate. The glaciar t
hat we went on is called Perito Moreno. It’s the fourth largest glaciar in the world.

We took a boat towards the glaciar and seeing it getting bigger and bigger as we got closer was incredible. It’s one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The blue and white of the glaciar, the floating pieces of ice in the lake. It was breathtaking.

It was not that hard of a hike up to the refuge to put our stuff before the glaciar, but there were a lot of steps. I didn’t really realise how out of shape I was until that moment. I was fine though, just a bit out of breath when we reached the top! We then put cramp-ons on our shoes so that we wouldn’t slip on the ice.

After that, our journey onto the glaciar began. We practiced walking around a little bit and then we had a bit of an uphill journey. I can honestly say this was one of the coolest things I have ever done. I drank natglaciar water straight from the source! It tasted incredible. I can now say I have walked on a glaciar in Argentina! I think thats pretty cool.

After the trekking we went back down to the refuge for lunch. What a view!! The huge glaciar and trees surrounding it was the best lunch view I could ask for. After lunch mate was eural njoyed thoroughly and we boarded the boat to take a bus to the Pasarela, the best view of the glaciar from above.

MORE STAIRS. But it was all worth it when we got to the balcony nearest to the glaciar. I saw lots of the ice from the glaciar fall and it was so cool!! I got a good video of one of them. I really enjoyed the glaciar and it was not as cold as I thought it would be. I’m pretty happy about that.

El Calafate was one of the most fun weekends in Argentina. I think its at the same level as Iguazú. You really can’t compare the 2 because they are so different and beautiful in their own way. They are both natural wonders that are so overwhelmingly beautiful. I definitely need to go back to both!! I do wish I was there for at least another day so I could have gone to El Chalten to do some more hiking and see some snow covered mountains up close. Definitely need to go to Ushuaia which is probably the nearest I will ever get to the South Pole. It’s on my bucket list!

With all that said, I am getting really sad that I only have about 2 weeks left here. I wish I could spend more time travelling Argentina and getting to know Buenos Aires. But I know I will be back someday and I can say that I have been here before and know my way around a little bit. In the meantime I’m going to enjoy my last weeks here!! This weekend there are Halloween Parties and I’m excited to dress up 🙂

Till Next time,

Anneliese

My computer charger has decided it does not want to work anymore.
