While the program does not offer classes at a British university, I still manage to experience culture shock when commuting on the Tube or interacting with my colleagues in the newsroom. Though two of my professors are British, my fellow classmates at CAPA are American, and I feel a sense of security being surrounded by similar people since I am so far from home. Also, the program is catered more towards foreigners studying abroad in London; the staff creates cultural and weekend events every month to expose students to the UK. Currently, I have plans to visit the Tower of London, see Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House, and spend my birthday weekend in the Scottish Highlands; this was all provided and planned by CAPA. My experience abroad has ran quite smoothly, and it’s all thanks to them.

Now, let me get off my tangent of praising CAPA and return to discussing my editorial internship at The Independent. Thus far, I have been interning at their offices in Kensington (super posh area of London) for three weeks. On my floor, four newspapers are produced: The Independent, Independent on Sunday, The i Paper, and The Evening Standard. This is the biggest internship I have ever had, and I am growing as a journalist each and every day. During my internship days, I report to the Features, Foreign, Digital and Comment editors; I pitch story ideas, research, edit, and write articles for the different desks. Fortunately, I have already published eight online stories and two print articles in The i Paper. I am looking forward to getting more international bylines, and until my next post, you can read the stories I have published so far.

London tube strikes: Workers vote to walkout over sacking of driver ‘who failed alcohol breath test’

Oscars 2015: Anna Kendrick to perform song at 87th Academy Awards

American Sniper pulled from Baghdad’s only cinema for ‘insulting Iraqis’

George RR Martin short stories to be adapted for big screen in new movie In The Lost Lands

George RR Martin’s The Winds of Winter will not be released until at least 2016, says publisher

London Underground ticket office closures start today

Marvel’s X-Men ‘in development’ to be made into TV series for Fox

Mortdecai becomes Johnny Depp’s fifth consecutive movie to flop at the box office

I want to dedicate a post to my internship—since that was my motivation for choosing the CAPA London program.
