Today at three in the morning I will be making the drive down to Houston to catch my 9:30am flight out to Hong Kong. I can’t believe how fast it has come! I don’t even know how I feel either. It seems like I haven’t had the proper amount of time to process just exactly what will be happening in the next few days. Let’s try to work through this.<\/p>\n
First, I fly fourteen hours from Houston to Tokyo, then another four hours from Tokyo to Hong Kong. I land in Hong Kong at around 11pm the following day. Now because I am arriving a day late (orientation starts on the 6th), I have to make my way to Hong Kong Baptist University on my own. Luckily, the university seems to be very organized since a thick pamphlet chalk-full of information came in the mail along with my student visa. I am supposed to take the red taxi and show the driver the address in case he doesn’t know English, then make my way to the right person on campus to let me into the dorm building. Easy enough right? Well let’s all hope…<\/p>\n
I have no clue what to expect when I actually get there. I keep picturing something like an Asian version of New York City but I am sure that is very naive. Either way, I know for certain that I will be out of my comfort zone. I am terrified, but I keep telling myself, “this isn’t your first rodeo”. I’ve done this before and I can do it again.
