{"id":8004,"date":"2017-05-01T07:30:16","date_gmt":"2017-05-01T11:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/social.rollins.edu\/wpsites\/letters\/?p=8004"},"modified":"2019-07-15T17:55:02","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T17:55:02","slug":"blog-4-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/2017\/05\/01\/blog-4-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Blog 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The past two weeks have been full of beach trips and a little sight-seeing around the town of Dunedin.&nbsp; The closest beaches are St. Claire and St. Kilda which are known for surfing, but the coolest beach we\u2019ve been to is Tunnel Beach.&nbsp; The entrance to this beach is, as the name implies, a tunnel with a staircase through the cliff.&nbsp; You walk out of the tunnel and onto the sand of a beautiful beach with nice body surfing waves.&nbsp; Later in the week we left for a 2-day hiking trip in the West coast on the Copland Track which involves the two days of camping.&nbsp; This was the first time I was going to set out on an overnight hiking trip since arriving in New Zealand.&nbsp; We left on Friday morning and made a stop at the Blue Pools where we jumped off the bridge into beautiful freezing blue water.&nbsp; Later that night we camped at Lake Paringa so we could wake up early and get started on our hike.&nbsp; We hiked the 18km to the campsite where we relaxed in the natural hot pools and had a few drinks to ease our sore legs.&nbsp; During the hike, we would stop and refill our water bottles in the river of glacial run off.&nbsp; After the night by the hot pools we traveled the same path back to the parking lot.&nbsp; Unfortunately, the battery to our car had died and we were left stranded with the sand flies to eat us alive.&nbsp; Now I\u2019m not a religious person by any means, but I did find it particularly funny when the only person to stop and jump our car ended up being a priest! &nbsp;He was on his way to his church when he stopped to take off his jacket and we were able to walk up to him just in time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The past two weeks have been full of beach trips and a little sight-seeing around the town of Dunedin.&nbsp; The closest beaches are St. Claire and St. Kilda which are known for surfing, but the coolest beach we\u2019ve been to is Tunnel Beach.&nbsp; The entrance to this beach is, as the name implies, a tunnel&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":83,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[29],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-8004","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-otago"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8004","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/83"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=8004"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8004\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":15229,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8004\/revisions\/15229"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=8004"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=8004"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.rollins.edu\/letters\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=8004"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
