Yesterday was really cool, but also nerve wrecking. Let me explain.<\/p>\n
For my independent study, I\u2019m looking at this show going on in Paris called UBU, a production based on Ubu Roi. I\u2019ve been studying the play and the background of the production, and eventually I\u2019m going to write a big casebook on it full of pictures and reviews and all that good stuff. My professor suggested I should try and interview the director, and then I could ask all the questions I\u2019d like. I thought it would be so cool to do that, and eventually I got into contact with him, sent some emails, and got the interview.
\nBut oh, I was so dreadfully nervous.<\/p>\n
I had no idea how good his English would be, or if I should just struggle in French. I had written my questions in both English and French, depending upon what happened, I\u2019d have them, and was ready to conduct the most professional interview of my life. I was so worked up, I almost heaved on the metro.<\/p>\n
But I went to the caf\u00e9, and I did it.<\/p>\n
He was very nice, terribly nice, even, and he did speak English. His level of English was probably the same as my French, so together, we worked out just fine. I got all my questions answered, got my info, and got a look into a theatre world that\u2019s not really like the one I know in the US. He explained the Avignon Festival, and how his company has toured the same show so many places since then, even prisons. It was so cool to see a theatre professional working in a totally different landscape than my own.<\/p>\n
So, I\u2019m all set up to see the show, and that\u2019s great, but honestly, I\u2019m most excited for Spring Break.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve got it all booked and ready. The hostels are set, I\u2019ve got a list of things for London, and I\u2019m looking into West End shows to see right now! That whole city will be open for me, ready for me to see what\u2019s inside.<\/p>\n
