The countdown for my semester abroad in Germany started months ago and has dwindled to simply 2 days left. Leaving home has always been a challenge for most people but Germany is closer to home than Florida. I grew up in Dubai and my family is still residing there, making this experience my study abroad from my study abroad.

When I chose to study abroad at Jacob’s University it was mostly because I’ve always wanted to go to Germany and experience the life there. Luckily for me I discovered that an old high school friend of mine attends the same college. This fact honestly lifted a huge weight on my shoulder. For months now I’ve been worried that I would have trouble finding friends or fitting in and it all got just a little bit easier. I keep telling myself that I’ve done this before when I moved to America and I can do it again and when I finally calm down I can’t even hide my excitement.

I stopped at Bremen this summer with my family during our Euro-trip. We only had time to spend a day there and yet I’m extremely grateful we had the chance since I got to see what a beautiful place it is. We only were able to explore a small amount of the city but that only made me excited for the semester approaching to fully explore the life. I’ve also contacted a few of my high school friends who live in Europe to try and meet up. Europe has always been an amazing continent full of culture and I can’t wait to explore it fully by going to other countries. Unlike Florida, there’s so much public transport that I will take full advantage of!

My amazing, beautiful mother is accompanying me to Germany to help me settle in and see the university more before going back home. The semester will definitely not be easy, I will be taking “Physics” with a lab, “Analytical Chemistry” and “Germany 101”. Even with a full schedule I will be writing to you guys soon again! Peace out Dubai, hello Germany.

I am Celia Pedeprat-Lamechinou, biochemistry major on the pre-vet track and from Bordeaux, France.
