It’s funny and sad how the V-Men and the Gestapo treated Germans in contrast to the prejudice the system had against other ethnicities. The story in which a young woman was let off for singing an offensive song reminds me of a recent happening in which an underage white girl at a music festival was allowed to play rock-paper-scissors against a policeman in order to avoid a citation for drinking alcohol. Or Cecily Strong’s words to Barack Obama during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner: ‘Your hair’s so white now that it can talk back to the police’.
…Just an observation. 😉
I laughed out loud reading this! I was completely shocked and amused and horrified (if that combination is possible) when I initially read this article about the underage girl. While it is humorous on a basic level, on many much deeper levels it only confirms my suspicion of the crumbling trustworthiness of law enforcement in our society. This lack of respect for a system that would be mutually beneficial for all parties involved, whether it be ethnicity, religion, etc., shakes the complete foundation for a society.
I think that this is something that will always be a noticeable issue. There will always be some systems of oppression within society with 2 parts- those who abuse the system and those who are abused by the system. Whether it be the Gestapo and Germans in WWII or our current society and white America, there will always be someone milking the system.
In my opinion of course 🙂
