Remember how I said I didn’t like going out or living the nightlife life? Guess what I had to do.
Thursday, two weeks ago now that I’m actually sitting down to write this, was the company Christmas party. Naturally, I was a little apprehensive about meeting industry professionals in a party environment. And the party environment in general.
At 7 I put my game face on and got ready to be the best intern turned host that I could be. I charged through the crowds carrying plates of stinky cheese, crackers (that I might have sampled several times), and grapes (which I also might have tested) through throngs of hungry guests. I was master of wine and teaching the bartender how to make mixed drinks – thank you google. Then it was 7:15.
I’m kidding, of course. It was a really fun night; my boss lead a pub quiz about oddly specific things. One round was obscure album covers from the 1990s, random facts about 1996, and venue critiques from TimeOut.
The next day saw me out and socializing again. Mumford & Sons were playing on the 5 December TFI Friday show so we were given VIP access to hang out in the Ginger Room before taping. That is when my life changed. Florence Welch and Daniel Radcliffe were also guests that night. And they also had access to the Ginger Room. Florence patted my head and I had to contain my excitement in a mask of “I’m a cool industry dude and this happens all the time.”
BUT THEN
BUT THEN!
We went down to see the Mumford performance and THEN IT HAPPENED. Daniel Radcliffe was so excited about the show that HE TURNED AROUND AND GAVE ME A HUG. He told his friends that he couldn’t wait to see the band then turned around and gave me a hug. I’m still not sure how that happened. At all. I was blessed by Harry Potter. And I’m okay with that.
