The last two weeks I have been working on essays, studying for finals, playing some sports and hanging with friends. We are all bitter sweet about leaving this week. We have spent a lot of time laughing, playing games, eating food, and watching movies. Hopefully I will see all of these people again in the future.
This past weekend I went to England with Katie. It was her best friend’s birthday so we went to visit her. This trip made me appreciate my entire semester in Ireland. The two words I used the most in England were disappointing and underwhelmed. Honestly, it was nice to go to London, however, I would never go again. We saw the sites in only a couple hours. Buckingham Palace is grand, Big Ben is intricate and the London Eye is eye catching. But in all honesty, I was not as impressed in person as I was seeing the sites in movies and pictures. The streets are also very crowded with people moving very quickly in no particular order. Also the public transportation is not only expensive but extremely confusing. Not to mention, they are finicky. Our bus switched destinations half way through our ride and our train split in half and travelled two separate directions.
The highlight of our trip was Winchester. The town was pretty and strange. We had to walk through a graveyard to get to the campus. There were also a lot of people, everywhere. But there was a Christmas Market and the town was decorated. The food was also way better than in London. All in all, I refuse to go back to London.
In other news, today is Christmas day in Ireland so I am excited to find out what that entails. Also I leave in 6 days. I am excited to return to family but I am sad to leave Ireland and all the friends I have made. Looking back, I did not travel as much as I intended but in a way I am happy about that because now I can experience new places with loved ones in the future.
