The first two weeks of my study abroad trip have been incredible. One of my favorite things so far was The Palacio Real De Madrid. The palace was very interesting especially after touring it on our third or forth day in Madrid. This was extremely cool and a great experience for me for many reasons. The first reason being we don’t necessarily have anything that even comes close to this at home as America is such a new country compared to these historic European countries especially Spain. This palace was built from 1738- 1755 after the first palace was destroyed by a fire. This palace is so large it has well above 3,000 rooms, which we only got to tour about 10-15 (still felt huge). It also contains over 1.4 million square feet. This size makes me wonder if the royal family could ever find one another in the house! Another reason this was such a cool experience is because the palace includes some of the great art by some of the greatest Spanish artists that I learned about years ago in my high school Spanish classes. Finally, what made this experience one of my favorites was the view on the outside as you stand in the middle of the church and the palace. The breathtaking views of the country side of Madrid were incredible. I have been back twice since to check out the church and our class took a trip to talk about the history of both the church and the palace.
