This past weekend, a couple of friends and I took a trip to Granada. A few people had mentioned how beautiful it was, but it completely exceeded my already high expectations! Since the town was the last in Spain to be conquered by the Spaniards, it still displays Arabian vibes. The streets were picturesque rather than modern, with cute shops, cobblestone streets, and arabic markets around every corner. One of the funniest parts was how many bachelor and bachelorette parties we saw happening in the streets. There were grooms everywhere dressed in crazy costumes with wigs or tutu’s, running around and screaming. It was quite a sight!
Probably my favorite part was Alhambra, the castle in which Christopher Columbus requested from Ferdinand and Isabella to take his journey that led to his discovery of America. Although we unfortunately did not buy tickets early enough to enter the castle, we ended up walking 8 miles that day around town and all the way up the hill to the top of the castle. At the end of the day, we went to a well known view point called Mirador de San Nicolas. The sun was just starting to set and we were able to look out over Granada and take in the beauty that is Alhambra. That night, we went to a well known club there called the Boom Boom Room. I have never seen so many people in such a small space, but it was worth it. I’ll still never get used to the idea that they can stay out until 5 in the morning. I was way too tired to try it that day, but my goal is to do it once before I go home. Although the trip went by so quickly, I hope to one day return to Granada to experience more of their culture that I fell in love with.
