The truth is, while in Spain I could not wait to come home. I had some bad experiences with my health due to the change in environment and food, which honestly made me a little miserable. However, as I sit here and I reflect on my trip, I can definitely say that I made the right choice by applying to the Verano Español study abroad.
Although I was not particularly a fan of Madrid (I am not a city person at all), it was nice to get a firsthand experience of living in a major city. Additionally, I loved all the other cities I visited while in Spain like Segovia, Candelario, and San Sebastian. The suckling pig in Segovia was to die for! It was amazing! The scenery, ambiance and climate were fantastic in Candelario. And San Sebastian…I LOVED San Sebastian. This city was made for me. Okay that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it was the perfect place for me. If you know me you know that I LOVE to eat (tasty food), and San Sebastian is the gastronomic paradise of Spain. I tasted so many different pintxos (this is just a different name for tapas) and 99% of them were not only appealing to the eye but also delicious. I felt as though I was in heaven while walking through Old Town, San Sebastian, there were pintxos EVERYWHERE, and they were so good. The drinks in San Sebastian were also just as great as the food and the people were super friendly. I would definitely go back to San Sebastian. It was lovely.
Overall, being in Spain has been wonderful. I gained an experience of a lifetime. I made new friends who have become very dear to me, and most importantly I have dramatically increased my Spanish. So, thank you Rollins College for this opportunity.
