Hello to those who are reading ! I am currently on “Spring Break” which in Spain they have easter week off. Calling it “Semana Santa”. I decided to travel during this break instead of staying in Spain, even though this is one of the best weeks to be in Spain. I decided to pack my things and head north. I am currently on a high-speed train looking at foggy-frozen lakes in Sweden as I travel from Stockholm to Oslo. The places which we have been to or are traveling to are Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo. We are heading to our last leg of the trip.
Amsterdam: Amsterdam was exactly what I expected. Chaos with beautiful canals on every corner with a smell of legal marijuana. The city is really an interesting place to visit because it has stunning architecture, but when we met an american student studying there he described it as ‘anarchy’. Because many things go in the city, with regards to many things regarding the law. It is a massive tourist destination and everyone there seemed to be non-native which was a bit of a bummer, but it happens. The city was still a pretty good time and we cycled around everywhere which I enjoyed.
Copenhagen: ABSOLUTE GEM! This city I always knew of but never knew anything about it. The city had dozens of stunning palaces as well as castles within the city itself. I was very impressed by the city because it had a lot to offer as well as a great social scene. We bought a ‘Copenhagen Card’ in which we were able to travel to any museum, castle, or destination that we wanted as well as free transportation and was a very bang for your buck kind of deal. We traveled to Malmo, Sweden for a day while there as it is only a 30 minute train ride, the city was very quaint and had a authentic Swedish feel to it. On our final day we went to a place called ‘Freetown Christiana’. You know how that kid told us Amsterdam was like ‘anarchy’? Well, he clearly hasn’t been here. Freetown Christiana is a part of Copenhagen which has about 850-1,000 residents. These residents live in a anarchist town. The town literally is an anarchy town. HOW COOL IS THAT? It was like a scene out of the move Mad Max. The town was so interesting to see as it was decorated by graffiti and make shift homes that use to be on a military base. Read the wikipedia page, it nuts.
$tockholm: This city is expensive. Copenhagen was also quite expensive but this is the worst we have seen on this trip. The city is really cool because it is made up by 14 separate islands in which we stayed in the ‘Old Town’ or also known as the main central island. We took Stockholm with a bit of a calmer approach as we went to about 2 museums a day while also walking a fair amount to feel a vibe for the city. We went to a viking pub last night which was really cool but it was such a tourist thing, reminded me a lot of like a disney or universal type place, just in the middle of every day Stockholm.
Oslo: I will be visiting Oslo for the second time, so we will see if I see anything new.
I would highly suggest traveling to Northern Europe especially to Scandinavia as it has a lot to offer without feeling you’re in a complete tourist trap like you can do in many of the very famous European cities.
Until next time!
