One thing that is really interesting in Oviedo is public transportation. One thing that is interesting about it is that so many people use it daily as the primary form of transportation besides walking. Walking is another thing that stands out of course because Florida is not a place where one can easily walk to the doctor, grocery store, or clothing shop all easily within 30 minutes of walking. If something is an hour walk away the bus is easily available for those in need of transport. Of course, many people still have cars but many of the parking lots are underground which differs from the United States where parking lots can stretch a vast amount. I talked with my host mom as she uses a car and she said cars are better if you have specific schedules and need to move quickly, however buses are usually the best option for everyone. Many people do not even get their license until they are in their 20s, where I was already driving at 15 along with almost the entirety of my sophomore class. Even if people have a car in Oviedo it is not like in the United States of America where it is very common for people to own multiple cars. I feel I would love to use public transit more often in the United Staes of America, however the way that cities are set up it would be very difficult as opposed to the simplicity of using a car. The public transport is also very safe. I was harassed once on the bus but other than that the bus has been fine to use at all times of day. People are very active into the night so I never feel worried walking home in the night or taking the bus home.
