A Community of Caring

We couldn’t have created this virtual version of Children’s Grief Awareness Day without a lot of help! This year, New Hope for Kids partnered with Rollins College professor, Dr. Sarah Parsloe, and the students in her class, Difficult Dialogues in Health Communication.

The students worked to create the craft activity blog on this site. They also partnered with MicheLee Puppets, a local non-profit that uses the art of puppetry to help children have difficult conversations.

MicheLee Puppets even donated 100 sock puppets to New Hope for Kids, created for you by volunteers throughout our Central Florida Community!

The college students even made their own puppets! They created an Instagram story about their class experience:

Check out this video that one student group created for New Hope for Kids’ Littles, which features two puppets talking about the death of a grandparent:

Mindfulness Moments with MicheLee Puppets

Sometimes, when we feel sad, stressed, or overwhelmed, it’s hard for us to quiet our minds and feel at peace. In this series of videos produced by MicheLee Puppets, Ms. Cathy and her puppet friend, Astrid, will help you learn how to calm your thoughts and embrace mindfulness.

Cozy Book Corner

Sometimes, finding support when you are missing your loved one feels especially difficult because none of your friends have gone through the same thing. You might feel all alone. However, reading about characters in books who are also coping with grief can help you to better understand your own emotions. In this Cozy Book Corner, check out some videos of friends reading their favorite books aloud for Children’s Grief Awareness Day.
